General Trail Conditions - the place to go to discuss current trail conditions

I concur with MBF - the trails that are open are in really good shape right now. The leaf raking in the fall seems to have paid big dividends.

This topic has been stickied with the intention being that it will be the “go to” discussion on trail conditions. It will always be at the top of the list, so it’ll be easy to check and update. See something amiss out on the trails? Post it here. Have a really good shred down a particularly sweet section of trail? Tell the rest of us about it here. Feel like talking politics? Head on over to Random Banter.

In an effort to mix things up a little, I rode a lap down Remembrance Day on Sunday.  There were a couple of small patches of snow near the top, but I’m sure they’d be gone by now.
If you’re heading out that way, remember that RD hasn’t been upgraded by the trail crews in the last couple of years, and it wasn’t raked last fall… so it’s starting to look (and ride) like it could use a little TLC.  For now, ride carefully and beware of the broken log ride across the puddle about halfway down the old bluff hiking trail.

I went out for a ‘quick’ shred after work and ended up riding for a couple hours, so the trails must be in pretty good shape. The crew has been hard at work the last few days fixing some drainage issues/clearing blow down on Long Way, and have got a really good start on a new connector that will add variety to our ever-expanding network. There are still a few wet areas that need work on upper Long Way, so please respect the posted trail closures. We are working to get things open as soon as possible. Stay tuned for updates!

On a positive note, the Uptrack is good to go all the way to the top, so those who want to get a little more spin out of their climb can now do so.

Upper Auntie Flo, Smoothie, Shining top to bottom and All Screwed Up are all in great condition and riding really well. Get out there and get your shred on!

Great job on the XC network to fix some of the wet areas.  Beautiful conditions today and tons of people out there.  Also saw a mom and 3 cubs up at Q1.  They were using the trail too.  Keep an eye out for the critters.

I heard that mama and cubs were also hanging out near the far end of Soul Stripper yesterday (Saturday the 14th)....

For those who haven’t realized, the upper “All Screwed Up” sign is a little screwed up right now and it needs to be moved. .  From Q1, the two trails that head to the south (away from the Bluff Road) are both Soul Stripper, and they form a loop.  “All Screwed Up” is like a Figure 8, made up of the two lowee trails heading south off of Long Way, and the loop down by Dahlie Creek.  Still confused? Our maps show the correct trail names, and are for sale at the two bike shops.

gooey sloppy trails.  rode today and came home coated with a nice slurry of mud.  I’ll be staying off until we get some dry weather.

Went out yesterday morning (May 24) for a quick spin. All Screwed Up was in good shape, that’s a nice xc trail (first time on it for me). Smoothie/bottom of Apocalypse had a couple minor wet spots, nothing too serious. The bottom of Uptrack was a swimming pool - I suspect anyone from here expects that already, I’m new this year and just getting to know how all the trails respond to the rain, lesson learned. From Q1 onwards, Uptrack is relatively dry.

Bear sighted by the bridge on Meanstreak.  Keep your eyes open.

Hey,

I rode Paydirt Thursday night, and there is a large wet spot/bomb crater forming midway down one of the berms (the next berm after the muddy one).  Might be advisable to take the detour until it has some time to dry out.

Yes, there are a couple of REALLY soft and muddy corners in that middle section of Paydirt.  Yesterday they were starting to get destroyed so we pulled the closed sign across that short section after the big “fishhook berm”.  We’re hoping that people will ride the short detour down the old ski out until things have a chance to dry out and we can fix up the closed section.
The rest of the trail is holding up remarkably well despite the intermittent showers and flurries!
Thanks!

Did Meanstreak on Tuesday,

There are a few muddy sections that it may be better to walk around still.

Just a heads up, there’s a tree down across lower Auntie Flow as of August 3. It’s big enough to have to get off the bike and lift over (and big enough that I couldn’t do anything about moving it).

Overhanging alder is gone from the bottom of Pay Dirt and put paper on the bridge just before merge with Piper, now I hope I don’t have to pedal the slimmy hill.  Left some paper at the bridge if needed….........

My hound was driving me crazy today so I decided to put on a few layers and take the her out for a spin on the Bluff.  With Environment Canada reporting 3 degrees and with snowflakes almost in the air it was pretty damp and chilly….but the good news is that it didn’t snow on our trails, and the even better news is that the Uptrack is still worth riding despite Mother Nature’s best efforts to deter us.  I took the road to Q1, then rode up and down the Uptrack which didn’t have any real muddy sections, and ended off on Penne from the overpass down.  I was really impressed.

This weekend I did a couple laps on Pump Daddy - which was a bit greasy in some of the middle sections and there were a few puddles inside the berms - but all in all it was also surprisingly good.  Huckin’ was OK, but there was definitely some mud-bogging in the mid-section between the drop and rock roll.

I imagine some of the other trails may be pretty muddy these days, but it’s nice to know there are options…..
